Liam Fitzgerald, fist-bump boy, named Man of the Year
Fitzgerald honored by Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
He is the little boy who stole hearts with a few fist bumps, and now he's the Man of the Year for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Liam Fitzgerald, 9, fist-bumped his way through the Boston Bruins' line-up in November as the team filed past coming off the ice after warmups.
On Thursday, the society named him Man of the Year after raising almost $150,000 through fundraising after the video of the fist bump went viral.
Liam was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of four. He is now cancer free .
"When you find out your child is dying of a life threatening disease and they survive, when you have been through that you want to do everything to give back," said Catherine Fitzgerald, Liam's mother.
The Boston Bruins offered their congratulations on Twitter on Friday.
