Tinder and Line Make Pushes into Music Market

line-story-nycJapanese messaging app Line is testing a music streaming app in Thailand, according to the Bangkok Post.

The Line Music app will charge users a subscription fee of 60 Baht (£1.16) per month for access to its catalogue of songs from Thai record labels including RS Music, Spicydisc and What The Duck. The app is also integrated with Lines messaging app, enabling users to share songs with friends.

Thailand makes sense as a testing ground for the app. Line already has 33m users inthe country, making it the apps biggest market outside of Japan, and it remains untouched by the likes of Spotify and Pandora – the only western streaming app available in the country is Deezer.

Line isnt the only surprising app currently making a foray into the music market – dating app Tinder is has partnered with Interscope Records to sell an album.

EDM producer Zedd has launched a page on the app, mimicking the apps native dating profiles. If users come across this profile and swipe right – which is normally how they show interest in another user – they will be given a link to download Zedds new album, True Colors, at a discounted price.
