Hull boss Steve Bruce believes Sam Allardyce will do all he can to try and motivate his West Ham side to beat Newcastle on Sunday.

Hull must beat Manchester United on Sunday and hope Newcastle fail to beat West Ham to maintain their Premier League status.

West Ham have little to play for but Bruce has no doubts his old friend will field a full-strength side and have his team pumped up at St James' Park.

"What Sam does with his team is his business," Bruce said. "Knowing Sam the way I do whoever he will be playing they will want to win the game. The Barclays Premier League is like that. The honesty and integrity of the league is there for everybody to see.  I am sure West Ham will be trying to get a result just like we are."

Hull have never won a Premier League game in May and Manchester United have not lost an away game of the final match of the season since 2001.

Bruce hopes there will be a late reprieve for his side against United and knows it is vital his team take their chances.

“We had so many good chances last week and didn’t take them, if you look at our Achilles heel that is it," he said.

“We didn’t expect to be in this position but we are and let’s hope there is one final twist and one slice of luck comes our way.

“As soon as the team goes over the white line there is not much more you can do. Let’s turn over Manchester United, which is never easy.

“I have said any team you manage is only as good as your strikers. We have missed Jelavic. You are right we have not scored enough goals.

“The difference between the league we are in now and the Championship is you get more chances.

“I don’t think you can level at them that they are not up for the fight. They have got to play and produce a performance.”
