Jose Mourinho hopes to play youngsters but Eden Hazard doubtful for Sunderland clash

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Diego Costa will feature for the second match in succession against Sunderland this weekend and hopes that Eden Hazard will also be fit to play some part at Stamford Bridge as he looks to introduce two more of the club's talented youngsters.

Spanish striker Costa returned to action at West Brom following a six-week layoff due to a recurring hamstring injury, playing the full 90 minutes at The Hawthorns as the Premier League champions slumped to only their third loss of the season when they were reduced to 10 men following Cesc Fabregas's dismissal.

Hazard, who was named as the Premier League Player of the Year this week to complete a sensational year in which he was also honoured by the Professional Footballers' Association and the Football Writers' Assocation, also came through that defeat unscathed but was forced to miss an awards dinner on 21 May in order to undergo surgery to remove his wisdom teeth.

With Chelsea having secured their first title success since 2010 with victory over Crystal Palace on 3 May, Manager of the Year Mourinho has been eager to blood some of his younger cohort of late.

The 19-year-old Ruben Loftus-Cheek started against both Liverpool and West Brom, while Nathan Ake and Isaiah Brown have both featured from the substitutes bench.

The Blues do not have a particularly stellar record over recent years when it comes to offering a clear pathway from the academy through to the senior squad, but the Portuguese confirmed that he hopes to include attacking midfielder Jeremie Boga, 18, and towering centre-back Andreas Christensen, 19, for the visit of Dick Advocaat's side.

Chelsea's youngsters have mirrored the success of the first-team this term with victory in the Uefa Youth League and the FA Youth Cup.

Sunderland will travel to West London with the relief that they are now clear of relegation after a goalless draw with Arsenal in midweek left them 15th and four points clear of Hull City with just one game remaining.

Advocaat, who replaced Gus Poyet in March with the club hovering perilously close to the bottom three, is out of contract at the Stadium of Light at the end of the season and has already announced that he will decide his future soon after impressively fulfilling his survival brief.
