Consumers advised to boil frozen berries following Hepatitis A warning - food watchdog

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has reissued its warning to consumers to boil all frozen imported berries before eating.

The warning comes as the authority investigates “a few” unexplained cases of Hepatitis A in Ireland that may be connected to the consumption of frozen berries or other foods.

The decision was made to reissue the warning after a report into a European outbreak of Hepatis A found that contaminated berries could still be circulating in the food chain.

The warning was first issued last when an outbreak of the virus linked to imported frozen berries first identified in Ireland transpired to be a multi-state European outbreak.

Consumers are advised to boil all imported frozen berries for at least one minute before eating them.
