Kerry captain Kieran Donaghy was beaming with pride after becoming a father for the first time at the weekend.

Hilary Stephenson gave birth to baby girl Lola-Rose at Tralee General hospital and the doting father posted pictures on his Instagram account last night.

The football star paid tribute to the staff at the hospital for delivering the infant "safe and sound".

"Delighted to have Lola-Rose Donaghy arrive safe and sound to us on Saturday night ," he posted on his account.

"Well done to @hilstevo who played a blinder for the last nine months and more importantly Saturday night. Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes before and since she was born. Finally thanks to all the midwives and doctors in the Tralee General Hospital for doing such a great job. #love."

Last week Donaghy publicly denied reports that he has become a full-time footballer after leaving his position with Ulster Bank.

The towering full-forward confirmed that he is leaving his financial role but is already looking at alternative employment.

It had been believed that the Austin Stacks man would postpone seeking a new job until  after Kerry's championship run had concluded.

"I'd like to thank all staff and management at Ulster Bank for a great experience," he posted on his Twitter account. "It's the right time and the start if a new journey for me.

"However contrary to reports in the media today I am looking for new opportunities in employment and excited for what the future holds."
