RAJKOT: Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Bharatsinh Solanki, while paying tribute to late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 24th death anniversary on Thursday in city, asked Congress cadre to resolve personal differences and work together to build the party for the coming civic body polls in the state.
This year, GPPC chose Rajkot for the event where senior leaders including leader of opposition in state assembly Shankersinh Vaghela, former GPCC president Siddharth Patel and other regional leaders attended the function.
However, the shadow of the differences between Congress MLA from Rajkot Indranil Rajguru and other city Congress leaders continued to be the focal point of discussion for party leaders.
On Wednesday, Indranil Rajguru had staged a dharna against the proposed housing scheme of Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) near Bishop House on Kalavad Road but other city Congress leaders did not join him and termed it as the MLA's individual programme. Rajguru also did not use the city Congress unit's banner and instead used 'Team MLA'. The move became a major issue within the Congress party. However, on Thursday, Solanki, told media persons that there was no differences with the party members and that everyone wanted to show their strength against the ruling party. "This should not be seen as differences between members," said Solanki.
But veteran leader Shankersinh Vaghela, during his speech in packed house, cautioned the party members and said that if they want to remain in politics, they must be ready to face hardship. Vaghela even mentioned the name of Rajguru and city Congress chief Hemang Vasavda.
Vaghela, while targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that he (Modi) had let the country down by saying that people were ashamed of being born in India.
"As a Prime Minister, you are representing the whole nation and not a leader of any political party," he added.
Solanki said that during the last one year, corruption has increased phenomenally in the state and they would fight the coming polls on the issue of law and order as well as corruption."
He also claimed that Modi bowed down to China which is helping Pakistan.
