    CESC to pump in Rs 2,000 crore to strengthen distribution

    The company said it aims to reduce the time taken to provide a new connection to 24 hours from 72 hours at present.

    KOLKATA: Private power producer CESC will invest about Rs 2,000 crore to strengthen its distribution network in Kolkata, its permit area, chairman Sanjiv Goenka has said.

    “We have already invested Rs 3,000 crore in improving our distribution network in the past few years, and would want to invest another Rs 2,000 crore in improving the network so that downtime can be brought down to zero and Kolkata turns into a zero load shedding city ,“ Goenka told reporters on Thursday after the company's board meeting to adopt fourth-quarter results.

    Goenka said.The company said it aims to reduce the time taken to provide a new connection to 24 hours from 72 hours at present. “The first connection within 24 hours was provided on Wednesday and we hope to bring down the average time of offering new connection from three days to 24 hours by the end of the financial,“ Goenka said.
