Two girls from Tiruvannamalai district who scored 498 marks and shared State second rank expressed different ambitions.
While U. Esakky Mathy of Gandhi Nagar Matriculation Higher Secondary School wanted to become a cardiologist, S. Saranya of Sri Bharathi Vidyashram Matriculation School, Agarapalayam near Arani wanted to become an astronaut. Esakky Mathy, who got 99 each in Tamil and English and centum in remaining subjects, is a daughter of Ulaganathan, a hotel employee and Gnanaguru, an English teacher in a government school. She credits her success to the dedication of her teachers who time and again did course correction for her.
Saranya, who got 98 in Tamil and centum in four subjects, is a daughter of Sounderrajan, a private sector employee and Vani, a private schoolteacher.
