Students who topped exams scored 499/500 marks in the exam

Chennai: The mark-sheet for the state board class X examination results, announced on Thursday, was unprecedented in more ways than one. Besides a 2.2 per cent increase in the number of students who cracked the exams, the results saw a staggering number of high performers, with 773 “toppers”.

Notching up an unprecedented high performance, 41 students scored 499/500 marks to secure first rank, 190 bagged the second rank with 498/500 and 542 stood third. A total of 92.9 per cent students passed this years class X government examination.

“The unprecedented result reflects the hard work done by students. The entire credit goes to them,” said school education secretary D. Sabitha. Notching up an unprecedented high performance, 41 students scored 499/500 marks to secure first rank, 190 bagged the second rank with 498/500 and 542 stood third. Also as unofficial toppers (who didn't take Tamil as their first language) five students shared the first rank by scoring 500/500. While Erode district bagged the first place in overall pass percentage securing 98.04 per cent pass, followed by Virudhu Nagar (97.98 per cent), Chennai district stood 17th position among districts in the percentage of students who passed the exam. Puducherry shared unofficial first rank with 500 on 500.
