The ‘fish prasadam’ administration by Bathini family would commence at Nampally Exhibition Grounds on Mrigasira Karthi day on June 8 at 11.45 p.m. It would continue till 5.30 p.m. on June 9. Bathini Harinath Goud, secretary of the Bathini-Mrigasira Karthi Fish Prasadam Trust, told a press conference on Thursday that all arrangements were being put in place at the venue for which cooperation of different government departments was sought. “We thank Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Home Minister N. Narasimha Reddy for their help in ensuring the arrangements,” he said.
This year, the Bathini family was making arrangements to prepare about 3.50 quintals of ‘prasadam’ to ensure enough quantities so that every one queuing up during the two days receives it, said B. Shivanand Goud, Trust in-charge. “Last year, we prepared three quintals, and about 3.50 lakh people received it. This year, we will prepare more if required,” he said.
Mr. Harinath Goud said they had already approached different government departments including the Hyderabad District Collector, City Police, Roads & Buildings, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and electricity board for making required arrangements for orderly conduct of the annual event.
The Bathini family has been administering free ‘fish prasadam’ since 1845, he said adding, “this is 170{+t}{+h}year and we are the fourth generation carrying out this tradition”.
