Four to die for murder
Four people were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in Sylhet and Manikganj districts on Wednesday.
A Sylhet court awarded life sentence to a man for killing his wife in 2009, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.
The lifer is Kawsar Ahmed, 30, son of Moklisur Rahman of Borochatul village in Kanaighat upazila.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Waliur Rahman also fined him Tk 1 lakh. In default, he is to suffer another year in jail.
According to the prosecution, Kawsar strangled his wife Razna Begum, 22, following an altercation over dowry on August 30, 2009.
Later, the victim's father filed a case with Kanaighat Police Station against Kawsar. On April 10 in 2010, police pressed a charge sheet against him.
After examining witnesses and evidence, the judge found him guilty and pronounced the verdict.
In Manikganj, a court sentenced three people to life imprisonment for killing a medical representative in Sadar upazila of the district in 2004, reports our correspondent.
The convicts are Bhajan Chandra Sutradhar, son of Gopal Chandra Sutradhar of Garpara Tenarimor, Saiful Islam Tipu, son of Salam Munshi of Purbo Dashara village in Sadar upazila, and Kenu Mia, son of Waj Uddin of Kakrakhi village in Daulatpur upazila.
According to the prosecution, the three killed Jahid Hossain, 30, son of Sanaullh Madbar of Thatanga village in Sadar upazila, and took away his motorbike in 2004.
After examining witnesses and evidence, Additional District and Sessions Judge Al Mahmud Faijul Kabir gave the judgment.
