Eight Narikurava children, and four pregnant women of the community were on Thursday vaccinated under ‘Mission Indradhanush,’ a special immunisation campaign of the Health Department.

Over the next week, 645 special camps have been planned across the district, as there was scope for children and mothers of working class families hailing from other States, to have been left out of the earlier campaigns, said District Collector S. Prabakar after launching the campaign at Sathya Nagar here.

On every Wednesdays, infants below one year will be immunised against diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B, he said.

Speed up process

Through the Mission Mode approach to cover children who had been left out or missed out for immunisation, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare intends to accelerate the process of immunisation by covering 5 per cent and more children every year, so as to achieve target of full coverage by 2020.

The Ministry has launched the campaign with technical support of WHO, UNICEF, Rotary International, and other donor partners.

Mayor P. Malliga Paramasivam, deputy Mayor K.C. Palanichamy, and senior corporation officials were present.
