Badvel Junior Civil Judge Radha Rani has posted the petition filed by police, seeking 10-day police custody of international red sander smuggler Mukesh Badani, to Friday. Badani, who has been remanded to judicial custody up to June 1, began working as a mason. Later, he took up real estate business, but had incurred losses. He then ventured into pearl trade and set up an industry at his native village Mangoli in Hissar district of Haryana, where he manufactured products from red sanders wood, according to police officials.

Badani, who used to visit Kadapa and Chitoor districts frequently to enquire about the availability of red sander logs, had established links with the smugglers.

Red sanders logs worth of Rs. 14 crore were seized from four dumps at Mangoli which were allegedly hidden there at the instance of Badani.
