Pass percentage improves in The Nilgiris

The pass percentage of The Nilgiris in the Class X board exams has increased by 1.4 per cent (from 92.69 per cent in 2014) to 94.09 per cent this year. But, this year the district has slipped two places to the 16{+t}{+h}place in the State in terms of the overall pass percentage.

Of the total 10,451 students (5,112 boys and 5,339 girls) who wrote the exams this year, 9,833 students (4,675 boys and 5,158 girls) have cleared them. The pass percentage of girls is 96.61 - way ahead of the 91.45 per cent pass recorded by boys.

Pass percentage of Coonoor and Gudalur education districts stood at 95.67 and 91.63, respectively. Of the 178 schools from which students appeared in the exams this year, 55 schools have recorded 100 per cent pass. It includes 26 of the total 87 Government schools in the district.

Among schools with 100 per cent results are two Government tribal residential schools run by Adi Dravidar Welfare Department and the school for differently abled children run by the Social Welfare Department. The pass percentage of the Government schools in the district is 89.03 per cent – an increase by 2.28 per cent from last year.

10 share top marks

Ten students have shared the top three ranks in the district. M. Sugumar of Sri Giri Easwara Matriculation School, Kagguchi, who is among the second rank holders in the State has emerged the district topper – with 498 marks out of 500. Five students scored 497 marks to emerge third in the State and second in the district.

This includes G. Preethi Lavanya of the MKB CCM Government Girls High School, Manjoor. The four other students who shared the second rank are S. Divya of Stanes Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Coonoor, R. Akshay Kumar of Sathya Sai Matric School in Thuneri, S. Shamitha of Vivekananda Memorial Matric School at M. Palada and M. Nivetha of Viswa Santhi Vidyalaya Matric School at Kothagiri.

Four students who scored 496 marks and shared the third place in the district are I. Mubashira of Fathima Girls Higher Secondary School at Gudalur, M. Praveen of St. Antony’s Higher Secondary School, Coonoor, B. Sanjuna of Viswa Santhi Vidyalaya, Kothagiri, and A. Akshaya of Sathya Sai Matric School, Thuneri.

Govt. school toppers

State second rank holder G. Preethi Lavanya is the district topper among the Government school students. S. Sumisha, of the higher secondary school at Thuneri came second with 493 marks. B.P. Binsila of Girls High School, Erumad, and K. Indhu of a higher secondary school in Thummanatty, shared the third rank by scoring 491 marks.
