Bengaluru: Lottery scam probe may spell doom for some IPS officers

CID has named IGPs, ADGPs and a few retired DGPs in their report

BENGALURU: As the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials are digging deep into the illegal lottery scam, some of the senior IPS officers reportedly fear that their names would come out during the investigations.

Report

The CID has already submitted a primary report to the government naming some officers of the rank of IGPs, ADGPs and also some retired DGPs. Sources said that the CID which took up the investigations into the scam run by Paari Rajan, a native of Kolar, has submitted a report in which it has stated the nexus between Rajan and several senior IPS officers of the state.

“During the investigations, it is established that an officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police serving in Bengaluru city was in constant touch with Rajan. His phone call details report has revealed startling information that he had contacted Rajan from his personal mobile number and also from the land-line phone of his residence more than 100 times. However, top officials in the home department has asked us to probe the case thoroughly and find out whether the officer was involved in the scam,” a source in the Criminal Investigation Department said.

Pressure

The source also revealed that the same officer had allegedly tried to rescue Rajan by pressuring the local police who went to nab Rajan. “The statement of the local police has also been recorded as part of the investigation,” the source added. Further, it is said even an officer of the rank of Additional Director General of Police was also in touch with Rajan.

“Based on the primary report submitted, the government suspended Dharanesh, Superintendent of Police of Excise and Lottery Prohibition squad, as he was in contact with Rajan and also had met him several times. Besides, two retired DGPs were in contact with him and it has been mentioned in the report,” the source added.
