Be it simple denims for a summer day, shimmery dresses for parties or accessories, the colour blue has caught the fancy of Kolhapur’s youngsters.
The colour made it’s presence felt at the Cannes Film Festival this year as actress Sonam Kapoor donned a beautiful blue gown and so did many others like Jane Fonda, Sienna Miller and Eva Longoria. While it is a common notion that white is the colour for summer-wear, blue, often preferred by men, has emerged into the fashion world, with its versatile, tranquil, secure and orderly qualities.
Blue also goes with the trend of colour blocking and can be paired with any accessory or simply be worn plain and classy.
According to tarot reader and colour therapist, Nandini Hatte, blue is the colour of calmness. “It lowers the body temperature and soothes the eye. In therapy, we use it to settle discomfort as the colour is very gentle on the nerves, sight and emotions. Wearing stones like the sapphire can connect you to high ideals and spiritual essence.”
Fashion stylist Suhani Pilani adds, “Its not always about being stylish but more about comfort; that is how one looks good. And in this scorching heat, blue brings in the much required coolness and makes you comfortable.” Here is how the colour is catching up with Kolhapuris.
Colour block tops: This look can never go wrong and can be sported to work or even for a summer brunch with the ladies. Pairing it up with pearl accessories makes the colour stand out even more. Richa Kapadia, a stock broker, says, “Keeping it plain and simple is my idea of wearing colour blocks. I love pairing my clothes with chucks and blue neck pieces too work in my favour.”
Nail art: Nail art has become popular amongst young ladies across town and blue is the preferred colour. It goes with any other colour that you want to experiment with and makes your nails look cute.

Eye makeup: Feeling blue? Well look no further than adding a tinge of blue to your eyelids. The compliments you get for trying this out will surely lift your mood. Nisha Durr, a college student, said, “I use shades of blue for my eye make up many a times. Apart from making my eyes attractive, this also helps in making a style statement of my own.”
Sunglasses: Aviators never go out of style and the blue ones are fast becoming a hot style statement in the city. Shaded aviators are in vogue and the cobalt blue ones are perfect for showing off in college.

The Kolhapuri chappals, silver jewellery and a fish tail braid will add oomph and give a splash of the desi tadka to your look ladies.
