VADODRA: A'dhobi ghat' for the washer men of Benares and an 'akhada' for practicing wrestling are some of the architectural projects made by students of Navrachana University's School of Environmental Design and Architecture that were displayed as part of Exhibition 2015, a two day annual display event that was held recently
The projects themed around the holy city of Benares also called Varanasi, addressed critical architectural concerns faced by the city.
The students spent over two weeks in the city and studied various living spaces, the culture, lifestyle and various landmarks that personified the city.
"Benares has a lot of importance owing to its diverse culture. One can see the various facets of life on the holy ghats ranging from children playing, labourers working, cremations, and thriving food joints among many others. The city also boasts of a challenging and beautiful infrastructure that gave our students a great learning experience enabling them to design for cramped spaces that are culturally rich and possess a rich cultural history," said Gurudev Singh, dean of the university.
The annual exhibition included a display of works by students from architecture and interior design.
