Director Neeraj Ghaywan and actress Richa Chadda were left teary-eyed when their film Masaan got a five-minute standing ovation at the ongoing 68th Cannes International Film Festival here.
Richa, who last attended the Cannes gala for Gangs of Wasseypur , took to micro-blogging site Twitter to express her feelings following the screening of Masaan.
“Got teary at the 5 minute standing ovation. Thank you everyone. @ghaywan, first thanks to you,” Richa posted, along with a video of the applause.
The film was screened in the official Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes gala.
Sharing his proud moment at Cannes, Ghaywan tweeted: Broke down at the unstoppable applause. Thanks everyone! Missed you so much @anuragkashyap72, editor @nitin_baid, DP @avinasharun20! #Masaan.”
“I am buried under so many mentions. This is going to take a while. But thank you each and everyone for all the love for #Masaan (sic),” he added. Set in Varanasi, Masaan follows the stories of four people from a small town. It also features Shweta Tripathi, Sanjay Mishra and Vicky Kaushal.
