While You Were Sleeping: Mazda Says Driving Matters, New HiLux and Ford F-150 Trailer Backup Assist Revealed

After being stuck in Nashville for an extra unscheduled 24 hours and spending the following 12 hours bouncing from airport to airport, I can easily say that air travel is horrible. Conversely, Mazda is extolling the emotional virtues of driving in a new ad campaign.

Here’s what happened overnight.

That Mazda ad is clearly aimed squarely at me. I actually got emotional. No shame.

I watched the ad too - very well done. Better than their game changers ad series. People on this site should agree that "driving matters". Mazda are keeping true to their niche.

You aren't kidding. I just got stuck for 15 hours in the Denver Airport and had to sleep on the floor because all the hotels around were booked for a convention. Then I realized renting a car is like a very small hotel room, so I got a Ford Fiesta and slept in it. Also drove it to a friends house and was very impressed by it's performance. The automatic was also surprisingly good. Makes me think about trading in my Focus ST for a Fiesta ST. It feels lighter.

I swore off air travel the last time I flew to Seattle. When I got there, I could hardly move I was in so much pain. I decided to buy a 1995 Honda Accord from a friend with some fairly significant body damage on the drivers side to drive back. This meant that both doors on that side were inoperable. Still, climbing over the console to get into the driver's seat was still less uncomfortable than being crammed into a sardine can with two 300lb women on each side, and having everyone stare at me as though I was injecting heroine when I ordered a drink (I had a grand total of three alcoholic drinks during the eight hour flight...not exactly getting hammered). At least in a car, I can stop and walk as much as I want. No, stumbling around the narrow aisle on the plane is not the same. I, of course, didnt drink in the car, but since I wasnt in nearly as much pain, that was just fine. Sure it took almost three days, but I was able to walk by the time I got back. I enjoyed the trip rather than suffering through it. Oh, and I sold the Accord almost a year later for $800 more than I paid for it, so considering that, I didnt loose a dime by choosing an automobile over a flight. Quite the opposite, in fact. All I did to the Accord was replace a CV axle, charge the A/C and change its oil/filter a couple of times.

A nice antidote to all the publicity about driverless cars. Mark, sorry about your airport travails!
