Mimi Rogers Joins TV’s Ash Vs. The Evil Dead

‘Ash Vs. The Evil Dead,’ upcoming small screen spin-off of director Sam Raimi’s much loved ‘Evil Dead’ trilogy, has added another big name to its cast in Mimi Rogers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the veteran screen actress - perhaps best-remembered by horror fans for her role in 2000 cult classic ‘Ginger Snaps’ - will will portray Suzy Maxwell, mother of series regular Kelly, played by Dana DeLorenzo, who is “is reunited with her family and several uninvited guests after a freak accident.”

It doesn’t seem outside the realms of possibility that one of those uninvited guests might be Ash, the “aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter” portrayed once again by Bruce Campbell.

Currently in production in New Zealand, ‘Ash Vs The Evil Dead’ will consist of 10 episodes, each of which - unusually for modern TV - will be 30 minutes long.

It is the latest of several TV productions shot in New Zealand by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s production company Renaissance, their previous small screen output including ‘Hercules: the Legendary Journeys,’ ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ and more recently ‘Spartacus.’

Lucy Lawless, who appeared in all three of the aforementioned TV shows, is set to co-star in ‘Ash Vs The Evil Dead’ - and as it is being produced for Starz, the same US cable network who broadcast ‘Spartacus,’ it looks likely the series won’t hold back on the gory violence ‘Evil Dead’ fans expect.

Raimi has co-written the series with his brother Ivan, and will direct the first episode.

‘Ash Vs The Evil Dead’ will be broadcast on Starz in the autumn; no word yet on when or where we can expect to see it in the UK.
