On a mission to create awareness about organ donation
INDORE: Far beyond inspirational quotes, 27-year-old Ayushi Dutt, a civil service aspirant got herself inked to promote organ donation. Carrying message of ‘Donate Life’ on her left arm, her objective is to create awareness about organ donation, which is not just about donating body parts, but to give a fresh lease of life to donors.
This brave-heart, who has donated a kidney to her mother without giving a second thought if her action could create physical or social complications in her life.
Living in an orthodox society like ours which still has many myths associated with organ donation, Ayushi took brave decision as a chance to serve her mother.
Sharing her story with TOI, Dutt said, "My mother is connecting dot of our family and my parents did not tell me about my mother’s illness till 2013 when doctors finally told us that her kidney has failed."
Dutt family was given an option of either kidney transplant or dialysis. The family of four made rounds of discussion to take a final call. Ayushi researched about two options and decided to donate her kidney.
“With no inhibition I made up my mind to donate kidney to my mother. Unlike others, family members had no problems with my decision and they gave me a liberty to take the decision. And, there are no ill effects post-donation. In fact, quality of life improves as a positive feeling of saving a life fills mind,” Ayushi said.
Ayushi, who now has inked her arm to create awareness about organ donation, hosts multiple seminars and workshop for same and is planning to start an NGO Ayushi: Ek Prayas which will give financial and moral support to patients and their relatives struggling with organ transplant.
