Rivals try to get hands on ailing Sharp's LCD business

TOKYO -- Japan's Sharp may be in financial dire straits again, but its liquid crystal display technology is still highly sought after by rivals at home and overseas.

     Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is eager to help the company restructure partly because of fears its acclaimed LCD technology could flow out of the country and into the hands of foreign rivals.
