With no respite in the soaring day temperatures, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued warning that heat wave conditions would prevail in some parts of Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Nalgonda districts for the next two-days.

On Wednesday, the maximum day temperatures continued to rise with Nizamabad recording 46.4 degrees Celsius against 46.1 yesterday. Ramagundam in Karimnagar district did not lag behind with 46 degree Celsius. Hyderabad too saw the temperature rising to 42.9 degree Celsius.

Reports from the districts said people spent harrowing time due to the rising temperatures. High day temperature tormented people of Adilabad on the second successive day on Wednesday as maximum of 45 degree Celsius was recorded at the weather station located in the Agriculture Research Station, Adilabad.

After a hot night, with power outages adding to the torture, the day’s minimum was recorded at 32 degree Celsius at 5 a.m. which gave an inkling into the kind of heat which would prevail in the afternoon.

By and large people stayed in doors until 5 p.m., but the temperature had not subsided beyond 42 degree Celsius even then.

People forced to stay indoors

The rising temperature forced the people to stay indoors in Nizamabad district throughout the day in the last three days in the district. The blistering sun threatened the people against coming out of homes resulting in curfew like situation on roads.

All roads, including busy market centres and junctions wore a deserted look following the hot weather. Being afraid of overheat people prefer to travel only in mornings and evenings.

Though there is no drop in overall passenger traffic the occupancy rate in buses is poor during afternoons, according to Y. Gangadhar, the Deputy Chief Traffic Manager, RTC.

However, there was no change in passenger rush in trains and all trains were seen going jam packed due to holidays.

Amravati bound train was full of passengers, said T. Prabhu Charan, the Railway Station Manager here.
