Internationally acclaimed gospel choir Chitungwiza Harmony Singers (above) will hold a choral music concert at the Reps Theatre tomorrow.

The show is the first in a series of concerts to be held this year to raise funds for the choir’s UK trip early next year.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Chitungwiza Harmony Singers marketing manager Peter Thole said all was set for the show. Everything is now in shape for our fundraising show. We will be performing with no supporting acts since the show is meant to raise funds for our air tickets.

“We are set to tour Europe early 2016 and the tour is self sponsored and that is why we are holding this show,” he said.

“We are looking forward to a great show because it is a long time since we performed in the capital.”

He said they would be giving people a variety of music since they mix gospel with other themes in their songs.

“We are not 100 percent gospel singers because we mix themes. We also sing social music to entertain our audience.

“ Originally, we sang acappella but now some of our songs are accompanied by instruments like pianos, drums, mbira and hosho to add flavour to our music,” Thole said.

Chitungwiza Harmony Singers was formed in 1993 and since then the group has become one of the best acappella ensembles in the country.

For several years, they competed in the Old Mutual Regional Choir Championships in South Africa which draws the very best choirs from all over Southern Africa.

The choir scooped various awards at different international choral competitions.

Their songs are in 11 languages, including Shona, Latin and German attracting people of diverse backgrounds and languages.
