No clarity in RTE admissions even now

Last Date For Admissions Close, 5 School Defying Edu Dept
No clarity in RTE admissions even now
Nagpur: The deadline for admissions under Right to Education (RTE) Act ended on Wednesday but the confusion continues with no breakthrough reached yet. There are around five schools from the city, with one of them being a state board affiliate, which have questioned the education department directives to admit students in both pre-primary and primary.
Confusion also prevailed over the last date, as the department’s top boss in Nagpur division said the deadline was set as May 22.
Anil Pardhi said, “The last date for admission had been set for May 22.” But his subordinates have always been telling schools that deadline is May 20 and accordingly the hearing at Child Welfare Committee had also been set.
Another official said, “The deadline does not matter now anyway, because I do not think we can act against schools refusing to follow our orders. The matter is pending before the Bombay High Court and will be heard only in the second week of June.”
With complete chaos prevailing, there seems to be no solution in sight for the deadlock. Many schools that succumbed to pressure from the department are now regretting not standing up to them. One such principal, said, “We thought they (education department) will cause major problems for us and we did not want that. But it seems that the schools which stood their ground will benefit from this.”
The CWC hearing is on May 22 but schools are already questioning their jurisdiction in education and admission related matters.
