The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the alleged ‘encounter’ in Sagar Ratna restaurant on Saturday, re-constructed the crime scene on Wednesday with the help of some eye-witnesses. Sources said in the coming days, the SIT is likely to call all the nine Special Cell officers who were involved in the incident for questioning.

Sources in the SIT said investigators arrived at the spot along with recorded statements of all the eyewitnesses. They also called the waiters of the restaurant to the spot.

“The SIT team was led by DCP (Central) Parmaditya. They remained at the restaurant for one-and-half hours. SIT officials also met the restaurant owner and eight workers who were present at the time of the incident. Investigators are still waiting for the autopsy report. After receiving this, they will send the report to the ballistics team along with the bullet and weapons recovered to ascertain from whose gun the bullet was fired, killing Manoj Vashisht,” an officer said.

Meanwhile, after failing to lodge their case against the Special Cell officers, Vashisht’s family has decided to move the High Court, and demand for registration of FIR and a CBI probe into the incident.

Hours after Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi assured them of a vigilance probe, the family finally cremated the body.

Festive offer

“We don’t trust the SIT as we have come to know that some of the officers in the team, such as Inspector Ramesh Lamba, was earlier posted with the Special Cell. There is a strong possibility that he will help them,” Vashisht’s wife Priyanka said.

After questioning some of the Special Cell officers, SIT officials think that Vashisht died from a gunshot fired from his own .32 bore pistol during the scuffle with Inspector Dharmendra Kumar and Constable Jitendra.
