HC: Turn out encroachers at Mehrauli
NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Wednesday ordered the Delhi Police and Delhi Development Authority to ensure all encroachments at the Mehrauli Archaeological Park are immediately removed. It also asked ASI to inform the police and the DDA about the encroached areas in the 100-acre park which is home to 80 monuments.
A division bench of Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva however also made it clear that “under garb of removing people from the park, you can't remove people from Waqf land” and listed the matter for further hearing on May 27.

It passed the order after the Waqf board moved the court alleging that authorities were trying to disconnect power to the homes of tenants on its land under the garb of removing encroachments from the Archaeological Park. The court also directed DDA to submit a report on the extent of impact on the park from encroachments saying “in the meantime, nothing is to be demolished. Everything has to be preserved, but encroachers are to be removed.”
