The NIA has taken over the investigation into the December 28, 2014 Church Street blast case in Bengaluru as the Karnataka Police failed to make any headway in the case.
Till recently, the state police were hoping for leads from two alleged SIMI men — Haidar Ali and Umed Siddiqui—who were taken into custody in February. The two are the prime accused in the October 27, 2013 bomb attacks at Narendra Modi’s political rally in Patna.

So far, the police were probing the similarities between the Improvised Explosive Device used for the Church Street blast and the IEDs used by SIMI modules to carry out the blasts at Modi’s Patna rally in 2013.
Meanwhile, sources said the probe into the alleged Islamic State-linked module busted in Ratlam in April is also likely to be handed over to the agency soon.
The NIA, on the other hand, has also started probing the September 12, 2014 blast in a rented room in Bijnor.
According to sources, the CCTV footage soon after the blast shows six men hurrying out of the premises of the house and later all of them, said to be absconding SIMI members, converging outside.
