A girl student of a private dental college in Patiala was today caught using unfair means while appearing in her exam at Government College for Women here.

She allegedly used a Bluetooth device of the shape of a capsule fitted into her ear for copying in the exam.

“When we caught the girl, she immediately disconnected the device. We have confiscated the gadget and registered an unfair means case,” said principal of a women’s college. Last week, the supervisory staff of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, had recovered micro-photocopies of text books from a student of a Banur-based dental college.Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS, said: “Earlier, the private colleges were sent question papers in advance. There were reports that the colleges used to open these and help students a day before the exam. We then decided to hold the exam under BFUHS supervision.”

“In most of the cases for unfair means, we have found girls using written slips and gadgets for copying,” he said. “As students are more skilled in using hi-tech gadgets than invigilators and supervisors, the university has stepped up efforts to detect the use of modern technology for copying,” he said. — TNS
