“What have they written in 8,000 pages? He came on his own till Istanbul embassy, proved his intent to return to India, and then got the message sent across. It was only after that, that the government put him in an aircraft, to be flown back to the country,” she said.

“Earlier they said that they would treat them well. We will see now what the future holds. We have left everything to Allah,” she said.  “He wanted to come back for his family. Was that his fault?”

Raziya also asked why the chargesheet has been filed under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Indian Penal Code. “Aise kya milgaya unko,” she asked.

According to the chargesheet, Majeed, 24, reached Istanbul on November 26, 2014 and acquired emergency documents as he had lost his passport. The next day, he reportedly “sneaked” into India by a Turkish airline flight and was “apprehended” at the Mumbai airport.

“When he first called us to say that he wants to return, we followed the law. We approached the NIA for help. We had to go to someone,” said Raziya.

“Unhone usko sirf ek plane mein bithaya, emergency letter deke (They only put him on a plane, after handing emergency documents),” she claimed, adding that on arrival at the Mumbai airport, he was separated from his family.

Raziya said she was also worried about the three other youths who left with Majeed — Fahad Shaikh, Amaan Tandel and Saheem Tanki.

“Unko sudharne ka mauka toh diya hota. Unke paas agar taakat hai toh baaki teeno ko leke aao (They should have been given an opportunity to reform. If the NIA has the strength, it should get them back),” she said.
