New York Giants offensive tackle Will Beatty underwent successful surgery after tearing his pectoral muscle, the team reported Thursday.

Beatty sustained the injury while lifting weights on Tuesday and is expected to miss five to six months.

The 30-year-old started all 16 games at left tackle for the Giants last season and has missed just one regular season game in the last three years. He is a former 2009 second-round draft pick.

Beatty broke his leg during the final game of the 2013 season, but returned in time for training camp the next year.

Ereck Flowers, whom New York selected No. 9 in this year's NFL draft, was the University of Miami's starting left tackle during the 2014 season. Giants offensive guard Justin Pugh is also a candidate to play left tackle, according to Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo. 

New York finished 6–10 last season and came in third in the NFC East.
