Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammad Sami and former captain Shoaib Malik was recalled by Pakistan on Tuesday after staying away for almost three years. Both players will play two-match Twenty20 series against Zimbabwe this week.
Shoaib Malik, the 33-year-old all-rounder, has not figured since a poor show against Bangladesh in the last T20 Internationals in Dhaka in 2014. Sami, 34, was once regarded as one of the world’s fastest bowlers after he burst on to the scene in the early 2000s. But Sami played the last of his five T20s against Sri Lanka in June 2012.
Zimbabwe is the first test-playing nation to tour Pakistan in six years, following the deadly gun attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in 2009, which prompted the suspension of all global crickets in the nation. As per media reports, a Zimbabwe cricket team official has said on arriving in Pakistan in defiance of his government that the players volunteered for the 13-day tour.
Zimbabwe arrived early on Tuesday amid tight security to play five limited-over’s matches, all in Lahore, at Gaddafi Stadium. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also announced the squad of green shirts for Zimbabwe T20 series to be played from May 22.
