Rohini Sindhuri, Chief Executive Officer of Mandya Zilla Panchayat, on Tuesday directed the officials of the Health and Family Welfare Department to file criminal cases against two private medical laboratories for their alleged involvement in encouraging quacks in the district.
Speaking at the District Health Society meeting here, Ms. Sindhuri instructed the officials to curb the menace of fake doctors in the district.
Prasad Diagnostic Centre at Kollegal in the neighbouring Chamarajanagar district and Dhanvantri Diagnostic at Malavalli had been allegedly violating the provisions of the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (KPME) Act, 2007, Ms. Sindhuri said.
A retired health assistant, Gowramma, was directing some gullible people to these centres. Based on her prescriptions, these two laboratories were conducting Follicular Scan, HIV, HBSAG, and other tests.
The district administration has set up a helpline to register information about quacks in the district. Those having information about quacks can pass it on to officials through 08232-220417. Names and other details of informers would be kept secret, sources said.
