Unidentified miscreants stole a bag containing Rs 1.50 lakh belonging to a Nahan resident RK Garg while he was at a shop here today.
The incident took place when Garg encashed a cheque worth Rs 2 lakh from the Nahan branch of Punjab National Bank and after depositing Rs 30,000 to his account at the ICICI Bank he was waiting for his company’s vehicle to return to Kala Amb. Garg, who works at a Kala Amb-based industrial unit, noticed that his shirt got dirty following which he asked for water from a shop of one Bhagat Ram at Delhi Gate area to clean it.
He placed the bag on the table, but within minutes it was stolen. Though the local police was informed about the incident and nakas were also laid to nab the miscreant no success was achieved.
The modus operandi of the incident was not only similar to such thefts which have occurred outside banks in Kasauli and Baddi industrial areas, but it lent credence to the fact that a gang was keeping tabs on those who withdrew cash from banks and they adopted tactics to divert a person’s attention while vanishing with the money in no time. Additional SP Nishchint Negi said a case under Section 379 of the IPC was registered and further investigations were on to nab the miscreant.
