The total cost of building the airport near Eilat is estimated at NIS 1.7 billion.

Global energy management corporation Schneider Electric will supply the energy system for Timna Airport near Eilat. The deal is estimated in the tens of millions of shekels, including all of the high-tension electrical systems. The total cost of building the airport is estimated at NIS 1.7 billion.

Schneider will also supply the energy command and control system. YSB Group subsidiary Menolead Herut Systems is currently building the infrastructure for the systems at the Timna International Airport.

Named after late Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon and his son, Assaf Ramon (an IDF pilot who died in the course of duty), the airport at Timna, Israel's second international airport, is located 19 kilometers north of Eilat. It will replace Eilat and Ovda Airports, and serve as an alternative to Ben Gurion Airport.

A 3,100-sq.m. runway for takeoffs and landings is planned for the airport, as well as operational and support areas and a 28,000-sq.m. terminal capable of handling 1.8 passengers a year. Construction of the project is scheduled for completion in late 2016, and operation is slated to commence by mid-2017.

In March 2015, Danya Cebus Ltd. (TASE: DNYA) won the Israel Airports Authority tender to build the passenger terminal and the airport support areas. The cost of construction is estimated at NIS 500 million.

Schneider Electric Israel CEO Philippe Brami said that the project was a breakthrough in the Israeli market, due to the fact that it was Israel's first energy control management project. "Beyond the supply of the equipment, we're supplying the knowhow and the ability to control the systems, which will make the airport energy-efficient, and provide reliability and safety in the continuous supply of electricity, without malfunctions," he said.
