Adilabad, on Tuesday, sizzled at a torturing 45 degree Celsius of maximum day temperature, the highest so far this summer. For the first time during this season the highest day temperature on Tuesday matched with the maximum day temperatures recorded normally during summer in the district.
This is only the third time in last 19 days that the day temperatures had crossed 40 degree Celsius. Day temperatures had stayed below that mark for a majority of the month owing to unseasonal rainfall and cloudy conditions.
Last year, the month of May had seen 22 days on which day temperature had crossed 40 degree Celsius, the maximum of 45 degree Celsius was recorded on May 31. Though there was some monsoon activity initially in June to bring down the day time heat that year, maximum temperatures had stayed above 40 degrees for a better part of that month.
Adilabad Agriculture Research Station Scientist (Agronomy) D. Mohan Das says that the start of monsoon could be normal even this year, but the El Nino effect could see long dry spells during the season. "Farmers going in for soyabean cultivation should be careful in taking up sowing," he suggested.
