Frankie Gavin has warned IBF welterweight world champion Kell Brook not to underestimate him ahead of their title showdown on May 30.

The pair collide at the O2 Arena in London, a fight which is live on Sky Sports Box Office, with Brook (34-0 KO23) heavily tipped to maintain his undefeated record and retain his title.

Although Gavin will be the next challenger to threaten his position at the top of the welterweight division, Brook, 29, has recently spoken of his desire to secure a unification clash with Floyd Mayweather Jr in the very near future.

But with their bout just under two weeks away, Gavin (22-1 KO13) insists the Sheffield-born fighter would be 'stupid' not to have his mind fully focused on the task in hand.

"Kell Brook is world champion and admittedly he has got to look at these things. I am thinking about these things and I have not won the world title just yet," he told Sky Sports.

"He wants to be in the big fights to keep his name out there and get it mentioned alongside those fighters. I do not think he is overlooking me at all, but, if he is, he is a very stupid guy.

"There is not as much pressure on me this time around, especially as there are a lot of people saying I am going to get battered. But I put pressure on myself to perform. I want to be world champion and I seriously believe I will be world champion.

More from Brook V Gavin

"I had a lot of offers on the table since I signed with Matchroom, but once I realised I could pursue the fight with Kell I was looking at nothing else.

"I am up against it, but who goes for a world title and it is an easy fight? No-one. It is a world title, it is the pinnacle of your career and that is why it is going to be hard. But I am going to be more than ready. That's why I have pushed myself more than I have ever done before."

Gavin has certainly bounced-back to his best following a first career defeat last August. A split decision loss to Leonard Bundu in Wolverhampton brought to an end his unbeaten record and left his career seemingly in tatters.

However three consecutive victories over Mate Hornyak, Bradley Skeete and Bogdan Mitic have put the Birmingham-born southpaw within a fight of world title glory.

And Gavin, who is expecting a loyal following of around 900 supporters at the O2 Arena, says he is ready to rip up the script and shock the world by defeating Brook.

"I'm not really worrying about Kell. I know what Kell is going to bring to the table and it is going to be no different," the 29-year-old added.

"He says he loves fighting southpaws, but he has never fought a southpaw like me. I believe I will be the best technical fighter he has ever fought against as a pro so far. I fancy my chances against him. "
