ICSE, ISC: 2 make it to state merit list

The district had much to be proud of when the ICSE board released the results for the ICSE and ISC examinations on Monday. Almost all the schools achieved 100% pass, while two in the district made it to the state merit list.

MADURAI: The district had much to be proud of when the ICSE board released the results for the ICSE and ISC examinations on Monday. Almost all the schools achieved 100% pass, while two in the district made it to the state merit list.
B Subhashini from TVS Lakshmi Matriculation School in Veerapanchan secured 585 marks out of 600 in the ICSE examination and was the second topper in the state, while Guru Darshana from Virudhunagar Manicka Nadar Janakiammal School emerged sixth in the state after scoring 489 out of 500 in the ISC examination.

Almost all the schools achieved 100% pass, with very few having an average score of less than 90%. At the TVS Lakshmi Matriculation School, 123 students appeared for the ICSE examination, and all of them cleared it. The average marks stood at around 86%. Vice principal R Francis the school was happy with the results.
Subhashini, second in state and a student of the school said, “I rely more on my notes than books. I would get up early to study, but never studied during the night.” As a hardworking, she had expected to perform well in the examination.
Subhashini, whose family does not have any doctors, aspires to become one herself. “I want my future generations to remember me as a doctor,” she said.
A total of 16 students appeared for ICSE examination from Idhayam Rajendran Residential Higher Secondary School and all of them passed. Two students from the school secured more than 500 marks. P S Kumaran secured 525 out of 600 and emerged as the school topper. Similarly, Vikaasa School in city, which had put up 128 students for the ICSE examination, achieved 100% pass. According to the authorities, 92% of students have achieved distinction.

“More than 22% of students secured more than 90% in the ICSE examinations,” said correspondent of Vikaasa School Biju Sudharshan.
All the 54 students from Virudhunagar Manicka Nadar Janakiammal School who attended the ICSE examination cleared it. Two students secured 577 marks.
The results were just as good for the ISC examination. Virudhunagar Manicka Nadar Janakiammal School (14 students), TVS Lakshmi Matriculation School (29) and Vikaasa School recorded 100% pass results.
Guru Darshana, student of Virudhunagar Manicka Nadar Janakiammal School who was sixth in the state, scored 100% in Maths and Computer Science. She aspired to join the Humanities at Indian Institute of Technology-Madras. “I want to study English language further. I plan to join MA in English,” she said.
Meanwhile, all the 55 students who appeared for the ICSE Class 10 examinations in Trichy passed, with Yazhini Potramarai S of Kamakoti Vidyalaya achieving the top score of 564 marks. The average score recorded by all the three schools in the district which follow ICSE syllabus was higher than the national average of 75%.
However, there are no state toppers from the district.
Kamakoti Vidyalaya, which produced the top scorer, was district first with all the top three ranks scoring more than 92%. A total of 24 students appeared for the examination from the school. The examinations began in the last week of February and went on till the middle of March.
