Vijayawada: IIT foundation camp for corporation pupils

No student from state-run schools bagged IIT seat so far

Vijayawada: Municipal administration and urban development minister P. Narayana launched the first of its kind IIT foundation programme for corporation school students in CVR Municipal High School on Monday.

Addressing the students and parents at the inaugural function, minister P. Narayana requested all the students to avail the opportunity as no student from the corporation schools got selected for IIT from Andhra Pradesh.

"In 1997, only 100 students used to get selected for IITs from AP. Now, 2,500 seats are being allotted for Andhra Pradesh but still there is no student from municipal school bagging a seat in IIT," the minister pointed out.

“The 20-day coaching would definitely ignite the minds of students of classes VIII, IX and X. This can possibly give a chance to get more ranks in competitive exams like IIT, AIEEE and JEE,” he said.

Municipal commissioner G. Veerapandian and special in-charge of the project Mr Chandrasekhar said the classes will commence from May 22 and that selected students can avail the chance. Central Vijayawada MLA Bonda Uma Maheswar Rao, deputy mayor Gogula Venkataramana and some officials were present.
