Collector M. Karunakaran chaired a meeting here on Monday to ensure tourist-friendly measures at Courtallam during this season, especially during the ‘Saaral Thiruvizhaa’ celebrations.

The Madras High Court had to intervene last year and appointed an advocate commissioner for creating tourist-friendly environment at Courtallam. The Collector asked the officials to ensure the implementation of all instructions given by the Madras High Court last year and ensure safety measures in all waterfalls.

The Collector instructed the officials to remove encroachments in all places of Courtallam, strictly ban the use of shampoo, soaps and shikakai in the waterfalls.

“The Saaral Thiruvizhaa celebrations should be made attractive by involving all departments and the police should weed out consumption of liquor in open places. Movement of antisocials should be strictly monitored,” he said.

Dr. Karunakaran said the Courtallam town panchayat administration should not allow the contractors to collect exorbitant parking fee and the personnel collecting the fee should be in uniform with identity cards.

District Revenue Officer M.G. Kulandaivel, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, H. Vijayakumar and others participated in the meeting.
