Jaipur, at 45.9° C, breaks 12-year heat record in May
JAIPUR: Heat wave conditions in the state aggravated on Monday with most places recording maximum temperatures above the normal notch. This also triggered water crisis and abrupt power outages in many parts of the state. Phalodi (Jodhpur) was hottest in the state with a maximum temperature of 47 degrees Celsius.
People in Jaipur experienced the hottest day in May so far in 12 years as the maximum temperature was 45.9 degrees Celsius, almost 5 degrees above the normal notch.
“The data of maximum temperatures of Pink City since 2003 suggested that it was the hottest day in 12 years. From 2003 to 2014, Jaipur had its maximum temperature in May up to 45.7 degrees Celsius,” said an officer with the Jaipur Met office.
Most tourist spots and roads wore a deserted look in the afternoon. There was not much respite in the evening as the temperatures in different parts of the state were at or below 40 degrees Celsius. With the sudden rise in mercury many areas in Mansarover, Jhotwara, Murlipura, Sodala, Chandpole and other parts of the state witnessed water crisis. The district administration arranged for tankers to supply water. Some parts of Jaipur also witnessed power outage.
Attributing the continued rise in mercury to the active northerly winds and vanishing of western disturbance, the Jaipur Met office said that such conditions will continue for the next couple of days.

Phalodi in Jodhpur district was followed by Churu where a maximum temperature of 46.8 degrees Celsius was recorded, Kota 46.4, Sriganganagar 45, Barmer 44.8, Bikaner 44.6, Pilani 44.5, Jodhpur 43.6, Ajmer 43.4 and a maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius was recorded in Udaipur district.
