Thunder never approached UConn's Kevin Ollie about coaching job
The Oklahoma City Thunder never approached UConn coach Kevin Ollie about the Thunder's head coaching job, SI.com's Chris Mannix reports.
The Thunder hired former Florida coach Billy Donovan to replace Scott Brooks, who was fired in April.
There had been speculation that the Thunder were considering Ollie, who played one season in Oklahoma City, to replace Brooks.
The Oklahoma City head coaching job was believed to be between Florida’s Billy Donovan and UConn’s Kevin Ollie. Not so, per a source. The Thunder never approached Ollie about the job. Oklahoma City GM Sam Presti has enormous respect for Ollie, who was a member of the Thunder roster before taking a job with the Huskies, but the team was locked in on Donovan from the start.
Ollie, 42, has posted a 72-33 record in three seasons as UConn's coach. He led seventh-seeded UConn to a national championship in 2014. Last season, the Huskies finished 20-15 and lost in the first round of the NIT.
