Viz Media, a North American distributor of manga and anime, named Brad Woods — previously with DreamWorks Animation — its new chief marketing officer.

Woods will be responsible for developing a range of marketing and product strategies to expand the Viz Media brand across multiple channels across all of the company’s imprints.

Hulu recently struck deals for “Sailor Moon” and “Sailor Moon Crystal” with Viz Media, which acquired exclusive North American rights to the franchise from Tokyo-based Toei Animation Co.

“Brad Woods is a seasoned entertainment executive with a proven success record of enhancing brand equity, increasing revenue, and achieving results with innovative strategies and visionary leadership,” Viz Media CEO Ken Sasaki said in announcing the hire. “His multidisciplinary experience will play a vital role in expanding Viz Media’s market share across the publishing, digital content, licensing, home media, and consumer product landscapes.”

Woods joins Viz Media from DreamWorks Animation, where he was senior VP of domestic consumer products and retail business development. At DWA, he expanded the studio’s retail distribution of properties including “Madagascar,” “Kung Fu Panda” and “How to Train Your Dragon.”
