Seven held with lahan, illicit liquor

AMRITSAR: The Amritsar rural police has confiscated huge quantity of illicit liquor from the residence of Narinder Singh at Sanghna Havelian village falling under the Chatiwind police station.

The Amritsar rural police has confiscated huge quantity of illicit liquor from the residence of Narinder Singh at Sanghna Havelian village falling under the Chatiwind police station.

The police confiscated 3,800 litres of lahan (raw material used of manufacturing illicit liquor), an indigenous distillery unit and 3,750 ml of illicit liquor, which was hidden underground. The accused, however, managed to escape from the spot. Investigating officer Durlabh Darshan said Narinder was a notorious person. He had been arrested a number of times earlier for the similar offence, he added. He said Narinder used to supply illicit liquor during night hours.

Meanwhile, the police arrested six persons on charge of bootlegging. Among those arrested include Paramjit Singh of Jabbowal (7,500ml), Lakha Singh of Jheete Khurd (180kg lahan), Manga Masih of Nepal village (20 bottles), Dilbagh Singh of Chhiddal village (nine bottles), Ajit Singh of Kotly Sakka village (50 bottles and 30 kg lahan) and Pargat Singh of Kotli Sakka village (with 180kg lahan and 6,750 ml illicit liquor). Separate cases under the Excise Act have been registered.
