CHANDIGARH: The colours of spring have come alive in photographs put together by residents and visitors of the City Beautiful. A photography contest titled 'Chandigarh in April' received an overwhelming response from the city - with people aged 10 years to 70 years sending in their entries.
Organized by the Chandigarh Department of Tourism, CITCO and the non-profit, non-government art organization Artscapes, the contest asked people connected with Chandigarh in any way to send pictures of how they perceived the city.
"We asked people to capture the spirit of Chandigarh and people of all groups have participated. In the preliminary round, 160 photographs were shortlisted out of the 1000 entries while the final 50 selected photographs are displayed in the exhibition at Sector 17," said Simrat Sharma of Artscapes.
While the exhibition at Sector 17 is open to all till Wednesday, it will move to various spots, including Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden and Rose Garden.
The best three entries were also given away prizes. Photographs were judged on the ability to capture the unique characteristics of the area, composition, use of light and creativity. The jury for the exhibition included Suresh Kumar, Vinit Bakshi and Dalveer Singh.
Ekampreet Singh of Manimajra bagged the first prize for his photograph. Lakshay Sharma and Kavita Saini from Chandigarh bagged the second and third prizes, respectively.
