TMC MP Anupam Hazra triggers yet another controversy
The registrar of Vishwa Bharati University delivered a notice to the TMC MP from Bolpur, who is also an Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work, after he was found to have performed his duty for only four months as against the one year norm.
Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament and Assistant Professor of Vishwa Bharati University, Anupam Hazra is once again at the centre of controversy after the University issued him a warning, stating to nullify his position at the institute, if he failed to produce a confirmation from the Lok Sabha Secretariat permitting him to carry both functions.
The registrar of Vishwa Bharati University, one of India's major Central Government sponsored universities in Santiniketan in West Bengal, delivered a notice to the TMC MP from Bolpur in the Birbhum district of the state, who is also an Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work, after he was found to have performed his duty for only four months as against the one year norm.
In the letter, the registrar declared that the 'Extraordinary Leave' granted to the professor would expire on June 1, 2015. He would be allowed to rejoin on June 1 only after he produced a clearance from the Lok Sabha Secretariat; failure to do so would result in his return to Assam University, Silchar, where he held the same position in the same department.
This came after Hazra, who was earlier a member of the faculty in Assam University, decided to teach at the Viswa Bharati University. However, after contesting and winning the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Bolpur constituency, the MP failed to devote sufficient attention and time to his duty in the institute.
This is perhaps not the first time that Hazra has landed himself in a controversy. Earlier too, the TMC MP had come under the flak of party members after he openly complained of not getting enough space to work in his constituency. On yet another occasion, he had also led a protest against the Vice-Chancellor of the institute, Sushanta Dattagupta's, demanding his resignation on charges of irregularities in the institute.
