Spot turmeric prices were down ₹200 a quintal due to lack of upcountry orders.
“We are not getting any fresh upcountry demand. So the traders are quoting decreased price and are buying a few bags only to fulfil the local orders. On Monday, 3,500 bags of turmeric arrived for sale, of which just 40 per cent was sold,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
The price of the finger variety decreased by ₹200 a quintal and the root variety by ₹150.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,889-8,179 a quintal and the root variety ₹5,199-7,603. Of the arrival of 831 bags, 252 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric traded at ₹7,199-8,409 and the root variety ₹6,559-7,909. Of the arrival of 488 bags, 441 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹6,609-8,209; the root variety ₹6,309-7,649. Of the 351 bags offered, 251 found takers.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,239-7,699; the root variety ₹6,999-7,459. All the 74 bags were sold.
