French Prime Minister Manuel Valls on Monday announced "an adjustment" of its executive staff in June, a move widely seen as a fresh attempt to revive the slumping popularity of the governing Socialists.

In an interview with France Culture radio, Valls "spoke about a change or an adjustment because there is a minister who is a candidate for regional election," referring to Carole Delga, junior minister for trade who is candidate for the presidency of Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrenees region.

Valls also said to pick a new face to replace Genevieve Fioraso, former junior minister for higher education and research, who quit her post in March due to health problems.

In a previous interview, Valls saw a possible government reshuffle if the Greens accepted some portfolios in the Socialist Party cabinet, a move aimed at backing the Socialists' majority and refreshing their line up after their defeat in the regional election.

In August 2014, ex-economy minister Arnaud Montebourg's criticism against the government's economic policies forced the government to resign and to name a new executive team, the third government reshuffle since the Socialists took power in 2012.
