Gangtokey Gondogol, a short novel by Satyajit Ray, was first published in 1971. It's among the earlier stories in the Feluda series that didn't feature Jatayu.
And that's just what Sandip needed, post the demise of his screen Jatayu, Bibhu Bhattacharya, in 2011. Though the director is yet to come up with a suitable replacement, he pulled off a coup by casting Abir, known for playing Byomkesh, as the private eye.
Abir Chatterjee: The most desirable man of Kolkata 2014
Gangtokey Gondogol is about a curious case that Feluda chances upon during a vacation to the hills with his cousin Topshe. It involves a missing Tibetan statue and the accidental death of Shivkumar Shelvankar. Though Jatayu was not introduced in the series back then, Ray wrote in another comic character, Nishikanto Sarkar, and it would be interesting to see who Sandip casts in this role.

When CT got in touch with Sandip, he said, Yes, Gangtokey Gondogol is my next Feluda venture, but it will not happen before 2016. Before that, there is likely to be another project that is yet undecided."
Meanwhile, the production house to helm the project, Shree Venkatesh Films, has bought the rights to 16 Byomkesh stories and will be making a film on the Saradindu Bandyopadhyay detective every year. Seems like, there will be a Feluda and a Byomkesh film from the same stable year after year.
